Following another successful Kickstarter campaign, Future Artists Studios are proud to announce the opening of a new art space on 81-83 Chapel Street, M3 5DF.
With 1 in 5 regional museums and galleries closing in 2015 we were presented with a very real question, do we allow art culture to be removed from our communities or do we go and build ourselves a new community based gallery, a gallery by the people for the people? Needless to say our answer was… lets go build ourselves a gallery.
The space will act as a Gallery, a creative arts hub and a meeting point for local businesses and creatives. Sitting in the heart of the Future Artists Campus, the gallery will exhibit works and experiences tied to 20th & 21st century counter and alternative culture and is set to showcase a minimum of 4 in-house shows per year.
The opening night takes place on June 10th to mark the launch of our first in-house exhibition, an interactive multimedia experience show casing the work of acclaimed photographer, Lawrence Watson.
Lawrence Watson is a British photographer who documented the rise of many famous Manchester and Salford Bands and was a regular staff photographer at the NME through the 1980s and 1990s. This installation focusses on the culture of Manchester in the 80s and 90s and the foundations that lead to the city fast becoming the bedrock of the British music scene.
Containing never before seen photographs of Noel Gallagher’s High flying Birds, The Smiths, Oasis, Ian Brown, New Order and many more, the exhibition stretches across two floors (stair access for the basement), hosting musical archives, audio clips, films and interviews, and even a 1980s Teenagers bedroom full of nostalgic experience.
